Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I become a member?
We host an Open House every Wednesday at 10:30am. We offer tours and explain how the Clubhouse works. No appointment or paperwork is required for the Open House. We will give you a referral packet, which you will complete with your referring Clinician or case manager. The term "member" underscores the voluntary nature of your participation, as well as our desire to focus on your strengths and personal recovery goals.
2. What can Bridge House do for me?
Bridge House is a welcoming, safe community. All the opportunities of membership are available to all members — from education to employment to socialization. In addition to the opportunities available to all Clubhouse members, our young adult members have an area to call their own, with audio-visual equipment, computers, a lending library and more. We have great meals here, too. But most importantly, Bridge House offers a sense of belonging.
3. Do I need insurance to attend?
No insurance is needed. We are funded by the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. There is no limit on how long you can be a member.
4. Is there any age requirement for joining?
Referrals are accepted for membership starting at age 18.
5. Can you help me find employment?
We take your desire to work very seriously. We believe that employment is a vital part of your recovery. Initially, you will spend time helping us run the Clubhouse as we get to know you, and you get to know the Clubhouse. Our Transitional Employment Program offers part time, entry-level employment to help you enter (or re-enter) the workforce in a safe and supported way.
6. Do you help with housing?
We can help get you on lists for supportive housing. We will also assist with Section 8 applications when those lists open up.
7. What education programs do you have?
Our Education Area has dedicated computers for members who have education goals. We can help with application and financial aid assistance for members who want to attend local colleges. We can also assist you with studying for your GED.
8. What kind of social activities do you have?
We start our social activities at 4pm, and on holidays and Saturdays from 9am to 2pm. We may play Scrabble, cards, Bingo or video games in the Clubhouse. Or we may go to the movies, bowling, out to dinner, or other age-appropriate activities. In the nice weather we like to go on picnics and other special trips.
9. Do you offer transportation? Is there a bus stop nearby?
We do not offer transportation. The city bus stops right outside our door.
10. Do you have therapy or clinical services?
Bridge House is not a clinical program. We work in conjunction with your own clinical providers. There are no groups or individual counseling in the Clubhouse.
