Volunteer Stories

Thirteen years ago, Joe volunteered at Bridge House's annual Thanksgiving dinner, which serves 60 to 70 people annually. He enjoyed the experience so much that he has come back every year, and now helps to coordinate the dinner. "It's like a habit you don't want to break when you've had this experience... you're not going to be able to sit at home anymore! It's family-oriented, it's fun, and everybody chips in."Joe says other volunteers have also made the Bridge House dinner part of their annual tradition. "We get a couple new faces a year, and I've had people from work come with me. We look forward to seeing each other at Thanksgiving."

Ann says, "This couldn't be a better experience. Bridge House is absolutely a wonderful place to be a volunteer. The place is lovely, and the people that work there are so dedicated. For the [members] this is the safest place they have... Many have restored their lives, and without Bridge House that wouldn't have happened. They really have a lot to give the community, and I don't know where else they would go and get this care. This is what really inspires me to keep volunteering."
