Bridge House Awarded $10,000 Grant

Bridge House Inc. Awarded Donor Advised Grant, Thanks To Anonymous Donation Through Fairfield County Community Foundation

Bridgeport, CT — February 21, 2012 | Bridge House, Inc. is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $10,000 donor advised grant for its Member Transportation Fund from the Fairfield County Community Foundation.

The grant monies will be used to purchase bus tokens and passes for the members of Bridge House, a Bridgeport non-profit offering programs and services to persons recovering from the effects of serious mental illness. The grant was made possible thanks to a generous gift from an anonymous donor.

Bridge House member Karen C., who is presently homeless, stated that thanks to the donor's generosity, "Now I will receive a bus pass to look for a new apartment." Another Bridge House member Pat B., expressed her gratitude, stating: "Handicap transportation is costly in Bridgeport ($3.50/trip; $7.00/day), but with a pass I can get to Bridge House 6 days a week. The services I receive at Bridge House have kept me out the hospital."

Bridge House Executive Director Lawrence J. Carroll explained: "For our many members who live below or near the poverty level, the cost of public transportation is a major barrier to securing a job, getting to school, or accessing other services, including those offered at Bridge House. This grant will help many members scale that barrier."

Since 1986, Bridge House has provided its members a variety of services, including assistance finding employment or housing, or completing an educational program.

Fairfield County Community FoundationThe Fairfield County Community Foundation provides philanthropic advisory services to donors, who may choose to remain anonymous, and promotes charitable giving for the purpose of building and sustaining Fairfield County communities. Since 1992, the foundation has awarded more than $135 million in grants.
