How To Join

Clinicians complete risk assessments and psychosocial evaluations to ensure every Member can participate safely and successfully in the Clubhouse community. These assessments help identify any immediate safety concerns, provide an understanding of each Member’s strengths and support needs, and guide appropriate recommendations. By completing this process, clinicians help create a safe, informed, and supportive environment for all.

We encourage Members to travel to the Clubhouse independently because it supports confidence, autonomy, and skill-building—core principles of the psychosocial Clubhouse model. Arriving on their own helps Members strengthen daily living skills, develop routines, and maintain a sense of ownership over their participation. While staff can help with planning routes or problem-solving transportation challenges, the act of getting to the Clubhouse is an important part of each Member’s recovery and independence.

Upon Bridge House receiving and reviewing the membership application and biopsychosocial assessment, you should hear from the intake team within 5–7 business days. If it’s determined that the individual is ready to join, we will schedule a three-day orientation.

Membership is free.

No. Bridge House does not pay Members to participate. As a psychosocial Clubhouse, participation is voluntary and based on personal interest, motivation, and recovery goals. Members engage in meaningful work and community activities because they choose to—not as paid employment.

Bridge House follows the International Clubhouse model, which is specifically designed to support adults living with serious mental health conditions. The structure, work-ordered day, and recovery-oriented practices of a psychosocial Clubhouse are built around the needs, strengths, and goals of people whose primary challenge is a mental health diagnosis. Because of this focus, individuals whose primary diagnosis is an intellectual or developmental disability (I/DD) are not eligible for membership. This does not reflect a judgment about ability or worth. It simply ensures that our program remains aligned with the Clubhouse International standards and can offer the most effective and appropriate support for the people it is designed to serve.

People with I/DD often benefit most from programs tailored specifically to their learning, communication, and support needs. We are happy to provide referrals to community organizations that specialize in serving individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Members are welcome to spend as much time at the Clubhouse as they feel is right for them. During the Work-Ordered Day, we encourage everyone to take part in tasks that match their interests and strengths. This shared work helps keep the Clubhouse running and fosters a sense of purpose, community, and belonging.

No. Participation at Bridge House is not considered Community Service. The Clubhouse is a voluntary, supportive community designed to help Members build skills, friendships, and independence—not a program for fulfilling legal or court-mandated obligations.

No. Bridge House does not provide housing. We can offer guidance, resources, and referrals related to housing.

Bridge House is a cash-only facility. Breakfast is $1.20, Lunch is $2.50, drinks and snacks range from 50 cent-$1

Due to considerations related to privacy, confidentiality, and resources, aides or support staff do not accompany Members to Bridge House. The Clubhouse is a member-driven community where everyone participates directly in activities, building independence and social connections.

Bridge House values a safe and supportive environment for all Members. While maintaining sobriety for at least three months is generally expected, the decision to join remains at the discretion of the intake team. This allows us to consider each Member’s unique circumstances and ensure they can participate safely and successfully in the Clubhouse community.

Bridge House encourages Members to dress in business casual attire to model a typical workplace and help build professional skills. We also ask that Members maintain good personal hygiene. Dressing appropriately supports a respectful, welcoming environment and helps Members practice workplace-ready habits while participating in Clubhouse activities.

Members are welcome to bring cellphones to the Clubhouse, but we ask that they be used considerately. Phones should not be audible in work areas, and personal calls should take place outside of work areas. This helps maintain a focused, respectful environment where everyone can participate fully in Clubhouse activities.

During severe weather, Bridge House may delay opening or close for the day to ensure the safety of members and staff.
